T-90 |
Today We look at one of the world's deadliest tanks one of the cheapest to produce One that was produced in great numbers and sold to many countries as well It is a major threat on the battlefield today.
And with that we look at the Russian-made T-90 tank and learn how insane this tank actually is.
So, the T-90. It's been around since pretty much 1993 the thing was it's a very unique tank because unlike some other modern generation tanks that were built from scratch This one was made up of different chassis Z' that existed before the T-90 was intended to be a replacement for the T-72 and the T-80 and of course the good old-fashioned T-64.
However, many consider this tank to be a major superior upgrade to the T-72 simply because the T-90 uses the T-72s platform for its design.
The program was approved in 1986 and by 1988 prototypes had begun.
Under a program by the name of object 188 oddly enough while object 188 was being made there Also another program that had a much bigger more impressive tank.
This was known as object 187 which was a more beefier tank but however they went with the 188 program because of budget reasons and a lot of other factors.
As a matter of fact when the T-90 was approved for wide production it was known simply as the T-72BU until it got its name change.
But however, it's not just an upgraded T-72 it actually took some parts from the T-80 as well One of the big things it did take from the T-80 was the fire control system.
On top of that, It also took its very popular engine which a lot of them still use, which is the V 84 m/s.
Now most of these tanks were made at the uralvagonzavod Factory in Nizhny Tagil, Russia and just so you guys know this factory is insane it's Extremely large not only is it the largest scientific and industrial complex in all of Russia.
But it's also the largest tank Factory in the entire world when it comes to producing main battle tanks.
Now one thing that you got to really keep in mind is it's pretty amazing that the T-90 tank came out when it did now The reason for that is because well if you look at it in the early 90s, There was the fall of the Soviet Union and you know with all that Government change and everything you could have had the T-90 be either delayed or cancelled outright.
However, It wasn't and it pushed right through and I find that just kind of a little bit interesting.
During the production of this tank the Russians were very keen on foreign buyers.
Obviously this new tank had some new upgrades meaning new armor.
India was the first country to jump on this and purchase these tanks and eventually acquire a license to build their own.
Being made out of the Avadi tank factory, which prior to that that factory was also building the T-72s.
But when India caught wind of Pakistan ordering the Ukrainian T-84 s they wanted a major upgrade.
These tanks were known as the T-90s and they came out around 2001.
India even in today's world is the biggest buyer of these tanks but one of the reasons why they chose this tank was specifically due to the fact that it is very close to the T-72 which they were already manufacturing and as a matter of fact 60% of the parts from these T-72s were needed to build the T-90s.
It's also interesting to know that they might not have purchased the T-90 if the Arjun tank was not delayed by Numerous amounts of years with that when it comes to operators India is the biggest having approximately 1650 of them.
Following that there is also Turkmenistan which had a bunch received in 2010.
Then Syria And of course Uganda.
And you're actually going to see more of these on the battlefield in the near future Simply because there were a lot of sales and a lot of deliveries done in 2015.
Well now basically, you had the countries of Algeria and Armenia Iraq that received theirs and even Vietnam recently got theirs in 2019.
And with that there are a lot of other countries that are looking into purchasing the T-90 such as Egypt Kuwait and Pakistan is even thinking and of course Yes, Russia still uses quite a lot of these tanks as a matter of fact.
They are the most a modern tank of the all the main battle tanks that are on the battlefield the reason I got a little tripped up there is because there is the new tank that's coming out and this is known simply as The Armata tank, which is one beast of a tank and it looks just amazing now for combat history.
This is where it gets a little bit tricky because there's not been a lot of information on Where the T-90s have been around the world, in terms of conflicts Russia obviously has used them for quite a while.
However, they haven't been seen on many fronts for Russia and for that country.
The first time they were reported using these tanks was during the Dagestan conflict. This happened in 1999 Where at least 12 of these tanks were used during the conflict and one of them was struck with an RPG in which it survived after that There isn't much to report besides the fact that it was used in Syria were 30 or so tanks were sent to the Front's during this conflict - were captured and one was destroyed which was the first time anything like this had ever happened at – 1890.
It's also been said that it's been used in Ukraine One thing is that there hasn't been any reports of these tanks going up against modern MBTs Other than that it's been used in training exercises and all that jazz.
There are probably a few more conflicts but not much has been said within the news now variants This is where we get into it. They got a lot of different ones.
As a matter of fact, there are 14 different variants at least known to the public 1490 tanks the T-90 as was the first upgrade of this and it had what was known as a welded turret Sometimes being referred to as the Vladimir it was introduced from my understanding around the early 2000s and the sequel of that is the T-90AM.
Which features upgraded armor and with that it no longer uses Russia’s old?
Trusty kontakT-5 armor bricks, but instead replaced all of its armor with new relic armor Which has been said to be 2 times stronger than kontakT-5 armor.
There's also the t9 TM, which will begin in 2019 I do believe that the t9 TM is the non-welded version of its upgrades It will also feature the same armor as the T-90 am Which is the same relict armor and some other upgrades as well?
Now to give a little bit more of an understanding of the welded and non-welded versions of the turret from my Understanding that was a big change that happened within the tank.
However, because the tanks got a welded version They didn't just overhaul the old tanks some old tanks and newer tanks still use the non-welded version And of course the welded version one didn't cancel out the other as well.
There is the upgraded export variant, which is known as the t90 TMS From my understanding. It also will use this new relic armor But as for the T-90 it also does have a bunch of other variants including recovery vehicle versions and a combat engineering variant a bridge layer and a m-- clearing type now specifications.
This is where it does get a little bit tricky because it also depends on the version firstly this vehicle overall is crewed by three why because it doesn't need a fourth person to load as the T-90s have an auto loading feature for ammunition.
Some of these versions are also armed with a defensive Store one which is a defensive piece of hardware to disrupt laser designation for incoming anti-tank guided missiles and also works against laser rangefinders depending on version your average weight of 8090 comes in at forty six point five tons, which is a lot lighter than an m1 Abrahams.
The length gun Ford is approximately nine point five three meters with a halt length of six point eight six meters and a width of Three point four six meters.
Now when it comes to height one thing is when you look at a T-90 you also think to yourself It might be a really tall looking tank well It's a bit tricky on the eye because as a matter of fact It does have a very low profile coming in at two point Two three meters very low to the ground.
For your engine power it is roughly eight hundred and forty horsepower for your standard V8 e for MS Keep in mind different versions have different engines and the horsepower changes.
The maximum speed on the road is roughly around sixty kilometers per hour with a range of five hundred and fifty kilometers.
For weapons, it uses a standard 125 smoothbore gun that comes in at approximately forty three rounds and four machine guns.
It has a twelve point seven millimeter chord heavy machine gun and a twelve point six two PK mt machine gun .
Last but not least when it comes to price in 2011 one of these costs about 4.25 million dollars.
Which is your Exported version coming in at approximately four point five million US Dollars and in today's world with all the variants combined you're looking at over three thousand two hundred of these Type of tanks that have been made in history.
That's me looking at the T-90.
